The largest Marinera dance was achieved by 653 couples in an event organized by Pilsen Trujillo (Peru) in Trujillo, Peru, on 19 January 2013.

The Marinera dance is popular throughout Peru but particularly in the northern city of Trujillo which welcomes dancers from all over the world during their annual Marinera dance contest. The dance is usually performed in couples with both male and female dancers wearing white and using white handkerchiefs. The event took place in a shopping centre, the day of the event the participants rehearsed for several hours before the record attempt and there had been classes in the weeks leading up to the attempt. The couples were counted by a barcode scanning system and those without the correct uniform were discounted.
